![]() ![]() Pamela Lightsey has expertise in classical just war theory and Womanist methodologies. In fact, she used her status as both scholar and ordained clergy to preach an affirming sermon at the UMC’s 2012 General Conference and to address the Common Witness Coalition at GC 2012. Lightsey does this work as the only out African American lesbian ordained clergy person in the United Methodist Church. Lightsey has helped draft petitions, written open letters to highlight leading African American scholars and clergy who support LGBTQ causes, and offered her expertise in Queer Theology to several workshop and seminar events. ![]() ![]() Refusing to sit quietly while legislation upon legislation was being passed to deny full inclusion of LGBTQ persons, Dr. Lightsey has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ rights consistently calling for an end to the United Methodist Church’s discriminatory polity related to ordination, church membership and marriage rights.
